Ultrasound at St.Francis Animal Hospital

Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a non-invasive, painless imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to create real-time images of your pet’s internal organs. Unlike X-rays, which use radiation, ultrasound offers a safe alternative that allows us to observe soft tissue structures in greater detail—especially in areas like the abdomen and chest.

We commonly use ultrasound to:

Examine the heart, liver, kidneys, bladder, spleen, and intestines
Detect tumors, cysts, fluid buildup, or abnormal organ structure
Monitor pregnancy and fetal development
Guide needle biopsies or fluid aspiration procedures
Evaluate unexplained symptoms such as vomiting, weight loss, or changes in urination

Ultrasound is particularly valuable when pets are showing subtle symptoms that aren’t immediately visible through physical exams or bloodwork. With real-time imaging, we’re able to see how organs are functioning and make more informed medical decisions—often during the same visit.
